The “Great Mull Air Mystery” is the name given to the disappearance of Peter Gibbs on December 24, 1975, after he took a solo night flight in a Cessna on the Scottish Isle of Mull.

Gibbs' uninjured but decomposed body was discovered on a hillside four months later by a local shepherd, but how and why he came to be there has never been established. The plane has never been officially found.

What happened to Peter and his plane after he took off from Glenforsa Airfield with rain and sleet hitting the area over Christmas? Was it just a case of misadventure trying to land a small plane on a remote Scottish airstrip in the dark? Were others involved? Was Gibbs trying to escape business debts? Why wasn’t the body discovered until four months later in an area searched many times, with no injuries and frequently used by local shepherds? Another mystery from the Scottish Isles.
