David Barclay Miller, disappeared May 19, 1998, Red Rock/Secret Mountain Wilderness Area, Arizona

Revised July 2024

David Barclay Miller, 22, was last seen leaving for a two-and-a-half-day hiking trip in Sedona, Arizona, on May 19, 1998.

He had only started working for the National Forest Service in April 1998 as a wilderness ranger in Arizona's Coconino National Forest.

Co-workers saw him on May 19 at the Beaver Creek ranger station, and that evening, he left a note at the station saying he was going hiking in the Red Rock/Secret Mountain Wilderness Area.

Miller never returned from his trip and has not been seen again. His vehicle was found abandoned at the Vultee Arch Trail.

He was 5'11, 160 pounds, and was wearing a t-shirt, shorts and black hiking boots and carrying a forest-green Gregory backpack. He had Sandy blond hair, blue/gray eyes, and wore glasses or contact lenses.

The search for David was abandoned after a few days and years later, no sign of him has turned up.
